Mindset and the Inability to See Potential

Why do some people succeed while others don’t? Every day in immigration, you make dozens of small choices.

Why do some people succeed while others don’t? Every day in immigration, you make dozens of small choices. Sleep in or go to a meetup. Stay in New York or move somewhere cheaper. Go to school or not.

If everything had gone smoothly for me, this channel wouldn’t exist. What would I write about if my first job in the USA was at Google? Although I could probably write about technology.

The author of this channel has missed out on various good opportunities during his immigration because he didn’t see the potential in the projects he interacted with. Talking about myself in the third person is just wonderful 😂

Next is a list of my 💩

💩 A call with the founder of Grammarly in 2015. Ignored the opportunity. Now this project is a unicorn.

💩 A meeting in New York with the founder of Giphy. The project was bought by Facebook in 2020. I didn’t pursue it, didn’t develop it.

💩 An intro to the founder of Squarespace. I got lazy back then. The project went public last year.

💩 A project request on Indriver in 2018 (?). Of course, I was lazy and didn’t develop it.

💩 An interview with the new CMO at Ecwid before M&A in 2019. Didn’t follow up. Ignored it.

So, if you have a unique ability to see potential where it exists, and moreover, to act instead of being lazy, your path will be easier.

And here I remember one of the webinars from 2018, where one of the immigrants told me that he found a job in a ramen shop in Brooklyn. He just started chatting. And you, too, might find your dream job while slurping soup in New York. The main thing is, don’t be lazy and write a follow-up.
