<p>Last week, a group of physicists from South Korea announced the creation of a material that "opens a new era for humanity." LK-99, a lead compound, is purportedly a superconductor at room temperature and pressure. Such a material, which conducts electricity without resistance under normal conditions, could have a significant impact on energy production and transmission, transportation, computing, and other areas of technology.</p>

<p>Resistance-free superconductors conduct electricity, which could lead to a substantial reduction in energy losses. They could be used in maglev (magnetically levitated trains), medical equipment, quantum computers, and even in particle accelerators in the field of high-energy physics.</p>
