I've been meaning to share a thought that for the last five years, I've felt like the internet has somehow stabilized and normalized. The thrill I used to feel when connecting to the internet via a modem (remember the "beep-beep-beep... pshhhhh... cccccccc... brrrrrrrr... piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiu... brrrrrrrr... pshhhhhhh..."?) is something I will never experience again. Back then, it was a mix of incredible freedom, limitless possibilities, and the understanding that the world would literally change beyond recognition by tomorrow.
This feeling has been especially strong in the last year or two; it’s become quite boring.
So now, reading about the giant leaps in AI, LLMs, etc., and sending API requests to OpenAI, I experience an incredible sense of déjà vu.
Limitless possibilities, freedom, the world will literally change beyond recognition by tomorrow.
