🎬 Anthropic taught Claude Cowork to learn skills from screencasts.
The new "Record a skill" feature: you start screen recording, narrate what and why you're doing it, and Claude turns the demonstration into a ready-to-use skill that can be launched repeatedly. It's located in the menu and the desktop app, available on Pro, Max, and Team.
Previously, a skill for Claude had to be described in text - steps, exceptions, decision logic. Now you can show the system once with your own example and explain the nuances, and the model takes care of the formalization: it analyzes the screen recording, clicks, and voice commentary to assemble a structured skill.
A similar idea was described by Leopold Aschenbrenner in "Situational Awareness" - AI that onboards like a new employee and learns processes through observation rather than documentation. Claude Code and long agent tasks have already been pushing Anthropic in this direction, and recording skills from the screen is the next step in the same direction.
The entry barrier to automating routine workflows is noticeably lowered - instead of documenting the process, you need to perform it once and explain it. For the mass displacement of labor, a model that is both smarter and cheaper than a human is needed - this release does not create such a model, but it reduces the cost of transferring existing routines to it.
