Continuing the #books series
Last time I talked about a worthy list of books with examples of different designs that I found in Jan Frank's book - Designer-Maniac's Diary. It's simply an aesthetic pleasure to flip through these books, but as a bonus, new neural connections are generated, and new thoughts and ideas emerge.
Today, after what seems like 2 weeks, I got to the book Russian Graphic Design by Anikst, Mikhail, Chernevich, Elena. From it, for example, it became clear that in the pre-Soviet era, design and advertising in Russia were doing very well.
And a small hack/bonus. Iβll share that I almost never buy new books. Firstly, often what I want is no longer available, and secondly, when it is available, you can often buy the same book in excellent condition second-hand and save it from gathering dust in a warehouse. The best way to search for such books (across all marketplaces) is https://www.bookfinder.com/
There you have filters by edition, ISBN, signed editions, etc. God bless the person who created this service.
Usually, my algorithm is simple: first, I look for the 1st edition with an autograph, then if not, just with an autograph, then just the 1st edition, and if none of that is available - I take what I can get :)
