Anthropic rolled out computer use for Claude Code and Cowork. Claude can now open files, manage the browser, run dev tools - essentially, work with any application like a human.
The feature is currently in research preview, available on macOS for Pro and Max subscribers. Windows is promised in a few weeks.
It works particularly interestingly with Dispatch - you can send a task from your phone, and Claude will execute it on your Mac while you're away. Files remain local, nothing goes to Anthropic's servers.
Important limitations: Claude moves slowly and deliberately, significantly slower than a human for now. Plus, it asks for permission before every action. Anthropic recommends not using the feature for handling sensitive data.
The entire computer use direction is still in its early stages, but the direction is clear - from a chat AI assistant to an AI that actually works on your computer.
