GPs are GPTs: An Early Look at the Labor Market Impact Potential of Large Language Models - a paper that made a lot of noise this week. The folks from OpenAI, OpenResearch, and the University of Pennsylvania tried to assess how much GPT-like models will affect the current workforce.
The findings are not encouraging:
1) Over 80% of jobs in the US will be affected by LLMs by at least 10%.
2) Just under 50% will feel an impact of at least 50%.
Key points:
- Higher-paying jobs are more likely to be automated due to LLMs.
- Science and critical thinking will be less affected. (🤔 interesting to see what will happen with the army of astropsychologists?)
- Blockchain engineers, along with designers and other specialists from the screenshot, have a significant impact.
- The main influence is time optimization and process acceleration.
Conclusion: If you are not already using LLMs in your work today, now is the time to urgently figure out how to start doing it.
