🀝 Meta and Sierra have published the Personal Agent Protocol - an open standard for how personal AI agents interact with businesses.

An expected development - the market is gradually creating protocols (including open ones) for interaction between agents and businesses, agents with each other, and so on. Walmart, Shopify, Stripe, Genesys, Rocket, and Instinct have already joined the Personal Agent Protocol, and version 0.1 of the specification will be released later in October.

The scheme is built on OAuth with access levels: without logging in, an agent can find out about product availability or return conditions. After user login, the business decides whether to give the agent read-only access or also write access, and the session is maintained across channels - a pre-login inquiry and a post-login order are part of the same visit. Separately, Visa has been running a competing Trusted Agent Protocol for payments with 175 million merchants since June, and Stripe and Shopify are participating in both schemes.

The predictable result is that agents are gradually becoming the main online consumers: they will buy, read, write, and act on behalf of humans. For those building an online business, it's already worth considering that the client is not a human, but an agent.
