To get on the whitelist for the API, you need to apply at https://openai.com/waitlist/gpt-4-api. The price is $0.03 per 1,000 prompt tokens and $0.06 per 1,000 completion tokens. The default rate limits are 40,000 tokens per minute and 200 requests per minute.

The number of tokens per request has been increased to 8192, while there is limited access to the model with 32,768 tokens (about 50 pages of text).
