OpenAI just introduced impressive updates for audio and speech in its API. Now it’s not just speech synthesis or recognition, but the ability to literally control the intonation and mood of speech by choosing the right “vibe”.

I tried the demo on OpenAI.fm and was amazed: the voice sounds incredibly natural, and the ability to choose the mood of the speech on the fly is something completely new.

What does this mean? Soon, voice assistants will stop sounding “robotic”. Now any application has a chance to speak as well as a living person, and even subtly express emotions.

You can try it yourself here: https://www.openai.fm

Documentation and API: https://platform.openai.com/docs/guides/audio

P.S. I don’t know about you, but for me, the last week has brought back the feeling that “everything is developing too fast and it’s becoming really scary.” Do you share these feelings?
