These principles were not created as a directive on how people should be, but as a reflection of the ethics and culture of the community that has organically developed since the event's inception.
The principles allow one to immerse themselves for a week in a non-existent world where everything is different. Some take them quite seriously: I have a story about a girl I knew before, who, during a chance meeting, said she didn’t know me, introduced herself with another name ("playa name") and claimed she had never heard of New York and had lived her whole life in Black Rock City.
