The Booksellers: A Documentary About Bookstores

A documentary about bookstores, collectors, and sales in New York.

Today in the council of what to watch in the evening - the film The Booksellers. It's a documentary about bookstores, collectors, sales, etc. in New York.

Starting from heartwarming stories about family stores (like Argosy Book Store) and ending with incredible tales of a book bought for $15 and sold for $200,000. It's especially sad to see them talk about how the internet is destroying the industry. I remember when Strand Book Store (founded in 1927) announced it was on the brink of closing due to the pandemic, and a line formed for several blocks to support the store. Knock on wood, it still operates today. And of course, it’s heartening to see the independent bookstore movement.

In Russian, the film is called Книготорговцы.

For me, as someone who dreams of having a separate room for books, this is a rare find.

Available on Apple TV (for a fee) and free on Amazon Prime Video.
