It's interesting why a protocol where each message (SMS or email) costs money at a rate set by the owner to protect against spam hasn't been implemented and isn't popular yet. Want to send me an email? No problem - pay 5 cents, people from the whitelist - 0 cents.
It seems this would make mass messaging unprofitable. On the other hand, those who value their attention less could exchange it for a small income.
