🤖 1X Tech has introduced hands for the Neo robot - featuring 25 degrees of freedom, fully backdrivable and force-controlled.
The core concept is "force transparency": each joint constantly provides force feedback. Regular industrial grippers don't do this - high gear ratios block feedback. Here, there's a read-write exchange across all 25 joints, plus tactile sensors with slip detection across the entire surface of the fingers.
Positioning accuracy is ±0.2 mm. Demonstrations include assembling LEGO, twisting a coin instead of a screw, rotating objects in the palm, typing on a keyboard, and sign language. Over 100 hands have already been produced, with a goal of 10,000 units by 2026.
