Researchers from UCL and Imperial College London have developed a system of flying drones that collaboratively 3D print materials. The system is called Aerial Additive Manufacturing (Aerial-AM) and is inspired by nature – the drones, like bees and wasps, work together to build an object according to a single blueprint.

P.S. Interestingly, sometimes nature gives hints – as in this case with bees, and sometimes it leads us away from the right answer. In particular, if people hadn’t tried to emulate the flapping of birds for flight, we would have found ourselves in the sky much sooner.
