It's interesting to think, if a person were immortal, would we have advanced further in technological development over the millennia due to the accumulation of knowledge in our heads, or would we have regressed into rigid retrogrades? It seems that the necessity to learn from scratch with each generation is actually a very strong thing. On one hand, a generation spends decades figuring out what humanity has already learned, and on the other hand, each time we gain a new perspective and create space for innovation.
Surely, some sci-fi books have been written on this topic.
