Reflections on Consciousness and Reality

I met with an entrepreneur and the conversation turned to Buddhism and AI.

Today I met with a well-known entrepreneur from the Valley at our New York coffee spot, and somehow we quickly jumped from life in America and entrepreneurship to the topics of Buddhism, artificial intelligence, the existence of consciousness, and the difference between humans and AI.

And even I, a convinced atheist, found myself slightly shaken in my views.

From the state of “current religions operate on unproven facts and assumptions,” I transitioned to the state of “in some sense, I also operate on unprovable facts and assumptions in my beliefs.”

So the main thesis that led to this was: “how can one prove that everything around me (including people) exists and is not a figment of my imagination or a simulation?”

It would be interesting to ponder this in the comments. What do you think?
