Recently, I needed to segment email subscribers into two groups - those who understand Russian and those who do not. Since there is little information besides Full Name and a couple of fields, I decided that there’s nothing better than just trusting ChatGPT. It seems like a large part of the audience can be identified by Full Name (at least I can as a person).

After poking around in Google Spreadsheet formulas, I realized there are limitations and it’s inconvenient. Again, like with all WYSIWYG tools, I understood that it’s easier to just vibe-code a script. After 2-3 iterations with Claude, it already processes each line with a prompt and updates the database. I understand that I haven’t even fully looked at what the script does.

And now I’m thinking, on one hand, I’m comforting myself with the hope that I understand the processes better than non-programmers, I can vibe-code, but on the other hand, is what I just did really better than finding an analyst to do everything for me or finding a service where I upload a file and get the result? In both cases, I don’t fully control the entire process.

What do you think?
